Course Overview

This is one of the most popular long distance routes in the Peak District, it takes in stunning scenery and amazing views for the whole day. Once the climb is done at the start of the walk we then traverse the skyline. This route follows Roman Roads, gritstone edges and classic ridges of the Vale of Edale. Be ready for a challenge – and also be ready for a beautiful walk through breathtaking scenery. We shall climb up from Hope, over Win Hill Pike, Kinder Scout, Mam Tor and Lose Hill, not dipping below 1,000ft until our return to Hope.

Distance: 20 miles (33km)
Total ascent: 1400m
Time: 4:50 to 9 hours (walking)

Please note these challenge walks are aimed at large groups. We can run these days from as few as 12 participants and we have previously run events with up to 150 participants.

Course Outcomes

  • Complete the Edale Skyline Challenge
  • Push your boundaries
  • Explore the Beautiful Peak District

Course Information

Here are a few equipment tips to help make sure you remember your challenge for the right reasons.

Look after your feet. Start off by getting a good pair of boots which fit you. They should be suitable for the kind of walking you plan on doing – the rougher the terrain, the heavier duty the boot you will need. Also think about socks; most people use a very thin pair under a thicker pair to help prevent blisters.

Dress properly. What you need depends on the time of year and conditions –and remember these conditions may be completely different up the hill to what they were when you left the car. Start with a moisture-wicking base layer then add insulating and windproof layers on top. Pack a waterproof outer layer, and maybe a hat and gloves.

Food and drink. Keep fuelled up and you’ll keep on striding, so remember to pick up a packed lunch but bring a few snacks and plenty of fluids.

Be prepared if things go wrong. Every walker should carry some kind of emergency kit. We recommend a torch, a spare warm layer, some personal first aid supplies, and some extra food are also essential

Carry it all comfortably. You’ll need a bag to throw everything in, but it doesn’t need to be too big.

No pre requisites. Participants must be able to complete the participation agreement and have a reasonable level of fitness
