YOUR RIGHT WAY IN A DAY NAVIGATION COURSE

9:30 - 16:30

Get ready to learn everything you need to navigate safely and confidently during a fun and informative day that will focus on boosting your confidence and developing your navigation technique.

ARRIVE AT THE MEETING POINT (TBC)

Your instructor will welcome you and discuss the aims of the course and your own aspirations over a cuppa...

CLASSROOM SESSION

A brief theory session introducing maps, access rights, key skills and discussing key strategies that are relevant to good navigation. Safety in the hills will underpin this session.

COLLECT AND CHECK YOUR EQUIPMENT

You'll need to collect maps and compasses and check that your rucksack is suitably packed ready for what the weather may throw at you.

TRAVEL TO COURSE LOCATION

The exact location will depend on the weather and the aims and abilities of the group. We typically aim to walk straight out from the start point.

PRACTICAL NAVIGATION SESSION

Your instructor will demonstrate key practical skills and give you the chance to get your eye in before progressing to harder skills and navigation targets. The incredible accuracy and usefulness of the maps usually hits home hard within the first few hours as we look at ways of absorbing and reflecting on clues experienced on your immediate journey and the wider environment. The afternoon will see you starting to appreciate the shape and steepness of the ground and how it is represented on your map.
