Course Overview

There are many reasons for choosing to book an instructor directly. Perhaps you are looking to learn something very specific or have a particular goal in mind. Perhaps it is very difficult for you to attend one of the dates of our scheduled courses or you feel that you would benefit from more focused attention. Maybe you are uncertain of your current ability and want an unbiased opinion before committing to a particular course. Whatever the reason, a Private Instructor Booking allows you to arrange exactly what you need so you get the very most from the time you have.

All of our expert instructors are highly knowledgeable and experienced and are always keen to share their passion for the great outdoors. A huge part of our work is private guiding and we are very proud of the adventures we have had with our clients over the years.

Whether you are an individual, a couple or a group, get in touch and we will organise a day that will work for you.

Please note that pricing depends on the season, as a guide, our Peak Season is from mid March until late October. Pricing does not apply to Scottish Winter activities or any activities where there are significant travel/accommodation time and costs.

Live Quoting System:

Feel free to try out our new online quoting system, this is available for activities to be booked more than 7 days in advance and for up to 6 people at a time. Please note that some courses, that require low ratios (for example lead climbing), may require multiple instructors and thereofre the pricing could be different than quoted below.

Kids go free:

1 x Under 16 goes free with every fully paid place. For example. If there was 1 x Adult and 1 x Under 16, this would be classed as 1 participant. If there were 2 Adults and 3 x Under 16's, this would class as 3 participants. If there were 2 x Under 16's, this would class as 1 participant.

YOUR PRIVATE INSTRUCTOR BOOKING

Start times can be discussed to suit your requirements

Each and every Private Instructor Booking is customised to your requirements. This process will begin when you first make contact with us. We will discuss your goals and ambitions before agreeing on a general plan for the session.

MEET AT THE ADVENTURE HUB OR ANOTHER LOCATION OF YOUR CHOOSING

If it is appropriate we will often arrange to meet you at our base, The Adventure Hub, where we can great you with a fresh cup of Italian coffee or Yorkshire tea. Alternatively, if it is a better option for you, we may arrange to meet you directly at the site of the activity. Your instructor will already have an understanding of what it is that you want to achieve but there is always time to fine tune and adapt the training as the session proceeds.

After a great day in the hills you will finish with a debrief so your instructor can give you suggestions and guidance on your next steps from here.

  • We encourage car sharing and the use of Public Transport wherever feasible.
  • We offer free camping kit for guests looking to cut down on luggage.
  • Our staff are trained to prolong the life of equipment used on this course, where it is possible to recycle equipment at the end of its life, we do so appropriately.
  • We operate in small teams at low ratios to reduce our impact on the venues we use and other countryside users.
  • The physical and mental benefits of outdoor activities are numerous and well documented, we firmly believe that those benefits should be available to as many people as possible.

  • If you are interested in experiencing any of our activities but feel unable to do so then please contact us to discuss your specific needs, we will always try to find a solution that works for you.

  • There are a range of simple adaptions we can make to our scheduled courses such as choosing venues with minimal walking or easy access to toilet facilities, providing cold storage facilities for temperature sensitive medications, allowing additional time or arranging for participants to be accompanied by a trusted aide.

  • When participation as part of an open group isn't appropriate we can arrange private tuition. This allows for a more tailored approach and a much wider range of adaptions such as assisted climbing and abseiling techniques for participants with significant physical or mobility issues.

  • If private tuition is unaffordable then we can sometimes offer subsidised places to bring the price back in line with our scheduled courses .These are provided by the Pure Outdoor Foundation whose goal is to bring as many people as possible into the outdoors, please enquire about availability.

  • Clear communication before the activity is crucial so, as well as telephone and email conversations, we can also arrange to meet participants directly at a venue days or weeks beforehand to identify any specific barriers and begin addressing any anxieties.

What if the weather is bad?

Cancellations must be made in writing (email is fine). Charges are based on the original course start date: more than 4 weeks before — 25% of the total course fee; between 4 and 2 weeks before — 75%; within 2 weeks — 100%. As courses run on fixed dates, the statutory 14-day cooling-off period doesn't apply.

Do I need my own insurance?
For UK courses we strongly recommend your own personal accident insurance, including cancellation cover. For overseas courses you must have specialist rescue, medical and repatriation insurance, and send us the details by the final payment date. The BMC and Snowcard both offer suitable mountaineering insurance.
