This unique and well planned event is a must for any groups looking to get involved in a challenge event with a novel twist at the end! Paddline across Lake Coniston to the finish line! This event has options to walk OR bike then paddle across Lake Coniston.
THE WALK - The walking course is approximately 30km and takes in breathtaking scenery including the famous ‘Old Man of Coniston’ along with some of the classic lakeland trails!
THE BIKE - a 70km mountain bike challenge touring the shores of Coniston and Windermere and includes miles of classic lakeland mountain bike terrain including the famous Grizedale forest trails.
THE DIP! Both walking and biking routes finish on the EAST shore of the lake. The finish line is however on the WEST shore! Be sure to save enough energy for the 1000m dash across the lake by kayak or paddle-board.
Options: You can choose to do the walk and water-sport challenge, the bike and water-sport challenge or simply just walk or just bike.
Please note these challenge walks are aimed at large groups. We can run these days from as few as 12 participants and we have previously run events with up to 150 participants.
Here are a few equipment tips to help make sure you remember your challenge for the right reasons.
Look after your feet. Start off by getting a good pair of boots which fit you. They should be suitable for the kind of walking you plan on doing – the rougher the terrain, the heavier duty the boot you will need. Also think about socks; most people use a very thin pair under a thicker pair to help prevent blisters.
Dress properly. What you need depends on the time of year and conditions –and remember these conditions may be completely different up the hill to what they were when you left the car. Start with a moisture-wicking base layer then add insulating and windproof layers on top. Pack a waterproof outer layer, and maybe a hat and gloves.
Food and drink. Keep fuelled up and you’ll keep on striding, so remember to pick up a packed lunch but bring a few snacks and plenty of fluids.
Be prepared if things go wrong. Every walker should carry some kind of emergency kit. We recommend a torch, a spare warm layer, some personal first aid supplies, and some extra food are also essential
Carry it all comfortably. You’ll need a bag to throw everything in, but it doesn’t need to be too big.
No pre requisites. Participants must be able to complete the participation agreement and have a reasonable level of fitness
