Take the first steps towards becoming a self-sufficient climber
Become a confident ‘second’ in trad climbing
Low instructor to participant ratio allows us to tailor the course to your needs.
This Improvers Climbing Course is designed as the progression from ourBeginner Course but would suit anyone who has climbed indoors or tried outdoor climbing and wants to progress towards being self-sufficient. The highly accessible gritstone crags of the Peak District provide the perfect environment to learn the essential skills of rope work and using the technical equipment required for trad and sport climbing. All of the training is practical and hands on so expect to do a lot of climbing over the two days.
During this course the focus is on seconding routes, placing and removing climbing equipment and creating top-rope anchor systems. By the end of the two days you will feel confident in your ability to partner a competent leader and independently use appropriate rope work to climb crags where you can easily access the top. If you are looking for a course which focuses on outdoor lead climbing or more advanced rope techniques then have a look at our lower ratio Advanced Climbing or Learn to Lead courses.
Free Climbing Wall Pass All participants on this course will received a complimentary pass to The Adventure Hub Indoor Bouldering Wall. You can use this immediately after your course or on an evening if the wall is available.
Weatherproofed Climbing Courses
We are proud to announce that our new premesis 'The Adventure Hub' has an indoor climbing wall and bouldering wall facility along with a rope rigging skills and training area. Of course, we are excited to take you climbing outside on real rock, but for those multiple rainy days when we have exhausted our selection of sheltered crags, it's a great facility to come back to and exclusive to Pure Outdoor
Our climbing courses are based from The Adventure Hub in the Bamford and include complimentary hot drinks and free parking.
Participants should have some experience of rock climbing and should be able to belay confidently. This experience may have been gained inside or outside.
You are welcome to bring any personal climbing gear but we can provide anything that you need.
We have a supply of climbing shoes that you can hire if necessary but it is sensible to bring your own if you have them.
We will be outside for the whole course so please bring suitable clothing to keep you warm and dry in most weathers and some sturdy footwear for walking to and from the climbing areas.
If necessary it is possible to travel up to the course on a weekend by getting an early train on Saturday morning - more info on our FAQ.
