The ultimate winter skills course to develop your mountain skills this winter. Year in year out, this is our most popular choice. On the 5 day course, we aim to provide you with experience of using all of the winter skills required for Ice Axe and Crampon use, Winter Navigation, Avalanche Awareness and Avoidance, building Emergency Shelters and Route Planning in the winter mountains. The practical hill days are backed up with off the hill de-briefs of focused activities such as route planning or discussing theory elements of the course.

This course really suits the summer hill-walker who has spent little or no time in the mountains in winter practicing the above skills. This course covers all of the essentials and allows course participants to follow up these skills with mountain days to consolidate the experience.

Our winter courses are based from 'The Hub' in Aviemore where we recommend you find some local accommodation - Lots of customers use Aviemore YHA as a base so this is a good option, though you are welcome to find your own accommodation anywhere locally.

You will need a walking Ice Axe and Crampons for this course, crampons must fit your boot well. Helmets will be required for some of the days and will be provided.
