YOUR PROBLEM SOLVING FOR CLIMBERS COURSE

1 DAY: 9.30 - 16:30

A practical day learning new skills to boost your confidence and allow you to enjoy ever more challenging routes safe in the knowledge that you have what it takes to overcome any problems that may arise.

ARRIVE AT THE ADVENTURE HUB BASE
Your instructor will welcome you and discuss the aims of the course and your own aspirations over a great cup of fresh Italian coffee or tea.

COLLECT AND CHECK YOUR EQUIPMENT

You'll begin by checking through any equipment you have brought along with you and picking up anything else that is required from our stores as well as ensuring you are equipped for whatever the weather may throw at you.

TRAVEL TO COURSE LOCATION
The exact location will depend on the weather and the aims and abilities of the group. Most of the venues that we use are approximately 15 minutes drive from our office and when you arrive you can expect to walk for between 5 and 15 minutes to reach the rock itself.

PRACTICAL SESSION
You will spend the whole day working on practical, hands on activities. Initially the focus is on introducing, refreshing and refining the skills associated with building good anchors and problem solving whilst tied into the anchor. Soon the emphasis moves to escaping the anchor and moving around the crag face independently in either ascent or descent to overcome relevant problems. Key to this is safe practice while abseiling. The rescue of climbing partners is discussed or demonstrated. Throughout the day the learning matter is always delivered with an eye to prevention of the problem rather than the cure.

BACK TO THE ADVENTURE HUB
Once we are off the hill we will return to the Adventure Hub. With fresh coffee in hand, we summarise the key learning points from the day's adventure, discuss your progress so far and set some personalised development targets for your ongoing climbing adventure.

All technical equipment can be provided. Due to the nature of the course we would expect most participants to own most of the required equipment already, you are welcome to bring this along. You will need 2 x Prusiks loops made from 1.2 meters of 5 - 6mm prusik cord. You can buy this and be shown how to tie it in our shop at The Adventure Hub.

  • Confidence leading and seconding routes graded V.Diff or harder
  • Knowledge of building sound anchors at the top of a crag/pitch
