Summary:

A full week on this Learn to Lead Climb course will allow you to get your head around lead climbing on the sharp end of the rope. This climbing week is a real treat and a true opportunity to put your skills to the test and walk away with some excellent lead climbing skills. With the opportunity to explore both the Gritstone outcrops of the Peak District.

For the first 3 days we will be exploring all aspects of single pitch climbing, tailored to suit your needs depending on your experience. With a low ratio of 1:3 (often 1:2) we can ensure that we have sufficient time to have an in depth approach to learning.

During the course you’ll try a selection of climbs and learn a ‘toolbox’ of essential lead climbing techniques to ensure you leave the course confident that you can safely lead climb on shorter climbs under your own steam. Lead climbing skills are introduced safely and progressively by highly experienced instructors to ensure you get the most from your course.

After the first part of the week you will move onto our 2 day Multi-Pitch Lead Climbing Course aimed at getting your head around multi pitch lead climbing on the sharp end of the rope.

For the final 2 days we will be exploring all aspects of climbing, tailored to suit your needs depending on your experience. With a low ratio of 1:2 we can ensure that we have sufficient time to have an in depth approach to learning. You will leave with a broad range of skills allowing you to get climbing independently after the course. With this course, you must have ‘the need to lead’.

The selection of techniques covered will include:

- Developing a thorough knowledge of suitable equipment for lead climbing and learning to manage it while climbing
- Developing a full understanding of climbing grade systems for single-pitch climbs and learn how to select appropriate initial lead climbs

- Crag etiquette and best practice when climbing at busy venues

- Skills for building efficient belay stances on single-pitch climb
- Efficient rope management and belaying on lead climbs
