Summary

Our unique in-house training scheme is designed to train a group of up to 6 candidates to become a Peak District Outdoor Instructor during the course of a year.

All being well, by the end of the scheme you would have attended courses aimed at training you to become a Hillwalking, Climbing and Caving Instructor along with a relevant Teaching Qualifcation and First Aid Certificate. This is not the only benefit as there is a huge amount of value added through the mentoring and shadowing side of the scheme along with advice on setting up a new business, outdoor industry advice and help with starting up as a freelance outdoor instructor. The emphasis is not only on giving you the experience to get qualified but also to make you a top instructor.

The scheme is designed as a part-time training scheme that can be achieved in a year alongside work or study. Much of the course will be over weekends with occasional weeks throughout the year. The calendar will be released mid January.

Please enquire if you are interested and we will ask you to tell us a bit of information about yourself and your goals. Enquire to: info@pureoutdoor.co.uk.

It is supported by LSIS, the Sector Skills Council for learning and skills improvement. The Level 3 / Level 4 Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) is aimed at those wanting to teach in the lifelong learning sector, or those already teaching within the sector who do not have the relevant qualifications. From September 2007, all new teachers must gain a Licence to Practice at the start of their career. The Level Level 3 / Level 4 Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) will provide an introductory programme for new teachers and confer a threshold licence to teach. Accommodation Information

The Peak District Training Centre
We are based at the Rock Mill Business park which is on the A623 between Chesterfield and Stockport. The centre is within 20 minutes drive from Sheffield and Chesterfield and can be reached in 30 minutes from Manchester. If you are coming from Sheffield/Chesterfield Direction, drive through the village of Stoney Middleton, when you exit the village the business park is on the left after a few hundred metres. The office is in Unit 3 and can be found in the tallest building at the business park.

Click here for an interactive map: http://www.pureoutdoor.co.uk/index.php?page=how-to-find-us

The postcode is S32 4TF for sat nav users. This will take you to the end/start of the village at Stoney Middleton. If you have come from the east, you will need to conitnue driving a further 300m. If you are coming from the west you will pass the centre just before your sat nav would have 'reached its destination'.

Start and Finish Times
We often run a busy schedule and try to stagger the start times of courses so that the centre is not overcrowded. The start times are:

9am: Rock Climbing and Caving Courses
9.30am: Navigation Courses, Mountain Skills Week, First Aid and Private Guided Courses
approx 4pm: Photography Courses (subject to time of year - always confirmed by email)

Please aim to arrive around the start time of your course as if you arrive too early there may be another group in the centre.

Local Accommodation (If required): There are many different options for accommodation in the local area. Here we have listed two main options. Those who have their own transport and for those who are using public transport.

Accommodation Options: Attending in own vehicle
Any B & B between Bakewell and Hathersage would suit as this is only a 10 minute drive to the training centre. Please click the below link for more information about our partner B & B’s: http://www.pureoutdoor.co.uk/essential-info/accommodation-guide-peak-district-courses/

Accommodation Options:
Public Transport
We pride ourselves on the accessibility of all courses. For those of you wishing to use public transport, Manchester and Sheffield stations connect to Hathersage in the Peak District, which is a short train ride away. Hathersage boasts a broad range of accommodation from camping, youth hostel to B&Bs and Hotels. We are more than happy to pick you if you are using public transport and take you to/from the training centre.
