Course Difficulty Key |
You may have seen the difficulty logo attached to the courses. This is a guideline, but may help to outline the difficuty of the course as far as fitness, stamina and experience is concerned. This difficulty key has been written with reference to walking courses. Climbing courses are more unique and will be adjusted to the groups ability.
The Scale:
![]()
Easy 1/5: Walking on paths and occasionaly off paths on rolling hills. Possibly 3-5 hours of walking throughout the day. e.g Bronze Navigation Course
![]()
Moderate 2/5: Walking on and off paths frequently over more demanding terrain, possibly the hills of the Lake District for example. Expect to be out for longer days of up to 6 hours. e.g Silver Navigation Course - Winter Skills Weekend
![]()
Quite Difficult 3/5: Frequently adventuring away from paths, on similar terrain to that offered on level 2. Expect to be out for 6+ hours in the day in all weather conditions. Wil contain more intense technical detail in comparison to level 1 and 2 (for example use of ice axe and crampons). The nature of the course length will also affect the difficulty (for example a 5 day course will be more intense than a 2 day course). e.g Gold Navigation Course - Winter Skills Week
